Anzac Day
Ordinary Australians stood up at a time when they most needed to.
It’s very easy to forget in our current social climate that the reason that we have great freedom, and arguably the most amazing quality of life of ANY country in the world, is because of this. They stood up for their country, and for the ideals of freedom of expression, freedom of opportunity. They stood up at a time where the future of the world was uncertain. They were willing to put everything on the line so that all the people of their country could enjoy freedom.
Well, those people STILL exist, and they’re still standing up. They join the services because they’re willing to give EVERYTHING.
But this day is not just about them. Anzac Day can be a day where we all think about service, no matter our occupation. In what way are we of service? To our families, to our friends, to our communities. Not everyone has to serve in the military. In emergency services. In government. In what way can we best be of service? It’s worth asking this question of ourselves. Are we in it for just ourselves? Have we forgotten that the only reason that we can be here is because of the service of others?
How do we learn to do this? Sort yourself out first by building a habit around physicality. Then deliberately head towards physical discomfort. You live in a country and time where you have LITERALLY the most opportunity of any human at any time on earth.
As you’re training today, know that you’re deliberately heading towards discomfort. Where’s the line where you want to quit? What happens when things don’t go as planned? Do you complain? Do you wish for comfort? Or will you LEAN IN. I guarantee that as you begin to embrace these things, knowing that each time you do, you learn a little more about yourself, your life will continue to get a little better each time. That thing you most want? It’s on the other side of discomfort. Go get it.
